AniGems Season in Review: Summer 2026. Anime ratings across East and West, covering 65 anime and four platforms. Cover collage featuring Bleach, Polar Opposites Season 2, Mushoku Tensei Season 3, Jaadugar, Draw This, Then Die!, Grow Up Show and Iron Wok Jan!

Draw This, Then Die! sits 45th by MyAnimeList member count among the 65 Summer titles we compared. By score, it is tenth on that same site, joint first on Bangumi and fifth on Filmarks. If you choose anime from the names attracting the most attention on MAL, this manga-making story is one to look for.

It isn't the only Summer 2026 title worth another look. Grow Up Show has a much higher attention rank on Bangumi than on MAL. Iron Wok Jan! places well on its three contributing sites, with scores that rose on all three. And a show can attract plenty of interest in a community without receiving equally favourable ratings there.

We compare those patterns to help you choose a next watch, including anime you may have missed. Our sources span English-speaking, Chinese-speaking and Japanese-speaking communities: MyAnimeList (MAL), the Chinese-language Bangumi, the Japanese review service Filmarks, and Taiwan's Gamer / Bahamut. Gamer is a gaming community with anime-catalogue pages where users rate shows.

The comparison covers the 65 Summer titles AniGems was actively tracking on October 10. Another 46 Summer catalogue entries weren't being tracked and are excluded, so this isn't a complete census of the season. Some titles may still have been airing. Ranks refer to this sample, not each platform's entire catalogue.

What MAL's larger member counts can leave out

Draw This, Then Die!, Grow Up Show and Iron Wok Jan! rank lower by MAL member count than by Bangumi collections. Collections are users' saved lists, including shows they plan to watch, are watching, have finished, paused or dropped. Neither site's count means completed viewers.

Attention ranks among the same 65 Summer titles. Draw This, Then Die! is 45th on MAL and 11th on Bangumi; Grow Up Show is 53rd and 12th; Iron Wok Jan! is 47th and 18th; Chainsmoker Cat is fifth and second. Blue circles identify MAL member ranks and pink diamonds identify Bangumi collection ranks.

Draw This, Then Die! has the scores to justify a closer look

Draw This, Then Die! anime cover, paired with its 8.50 combined score from 17,208 ratings across four platforms.
Open full-size image

Ai Yasumi loves reading manga and begins to think about making it herself. The animation studio's introduction describes a coming-of-age story about learning that craft.

Its 8.50 combined score puts it fifth overall, with 17,208 rating contributions. The worked example below lists its individual platform scores and counts.

Grow Up Show is more visible on Bangumi

Grow Up Show: Sunflower Circus follows a struggling circus troupe in 1950s Japan, as described in its official introduction. The ensemble and setting make it an alternative to the season's more numerous fantasy titles.

It places 53rd by MAL members but 12th by Bangumi collections. Its score of 7.2 ranks eleventh on Bangumi, while MAL's 7.40 ranks 26th.

The combined score is 7.96. Gamer's 4.9/5 is above its seasonal median of 4.8, but fourteen titles share that 4.9 in our matched sample.

Chainsmoker Cat is prominent on both sites

Chainsmoker Cat follows a nicotine-dependent cat and the other residents of an apartment building, as its official setup describes. It ranks second by Bangumi collections and fifth by MAL members, so it already attracts substantial attention on both.

MAL gives it 7.53 and Bangumi 7.5, almost the same number. Yet those scores place it nineteenth on MAL and joint sixth on Bangumi. Bangumi's score sits much nearer the top of its seasonal list. Filmarks places it fourteenth at 3.8/5.

Chainsmoker Cat's native scores and score positions among the same 65 titles: MAL 7.53/10 ranks 19th, Bangumi 7.5/10 ranks joint sixth, and Filmarks 3.8/5 ranks 14th. The thick segment on Bangumi spans the sixth-to-seventh tied positions. Gamer is excluded from this rank graphic because only 47 titles have eligible scores there.

Bangumi's favourable placement isn't a shared verdict across every Chinese-speaking platform: Gamer's 4.8/5 is at its seasonal median.

Attention and reception can tell different stories

BanG Dream! attracted plenty of Bangumi collections without an equally strong score. Love Unseen offers a different comparison: high MAL standing alongside a more moderate Filmarks result.

BanG Dream! has high Bangumi attention, but a lower score

BanG Dream! YUME∞MITA is a girls-band anime featuring Mugendai MewType and vocalist Arale Nakamachi, introduced on the official character pages. It ranks eighth by Bangumi collections, compared with 56th by MAL members. Yet its Bangumi score of 4.7, from 5,359 ratings, puts it joint 52nd by score. On MAL, 7.45 from 4,823 ratings puts it joint 22nd.

The histories diverge, too. Between July 18 and October 10, Bangumi's score fell from 6.8 to 4.7 while its rating count grew from 1,213 to 5,359. MAL changed only slightly, from 7.53 to 7.45, as its count grew from 912 to 4,823. Those records don't establish why people rated differently.

BanG Dream! YUME∞MITA's retained series-score observations from July 18 to October 10. MAL changes from 7.53 to 7.45 while Bangumi falls from 6.8 to 4.7. Both native ten-point scores use the full zero-to-ten vertical range; these are not episode scores.

Love Unseen is a stronger favourite on MAL than on Filmarks

Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky scores 8.42 on MAL, fourth in our sample, and 7.3 on Bangumi, tenth. Filmarks gives it 3.5/5, tied 24th with six other titles. That is at the Filmarks median in our matched four-site sample, whereas the MAL and Bangumi scores are above their respective medians.

The official introduction describes a university romance between the socially withdrawn Kakeru and Koharu, a blind student who wants to set off fireworks. Consider it if you're looking for a university romance rather than another high-school setting.

Love Unseen's native scores and positions among the same 65 titles: MAL 8.42/10 ranks fourth, Bangumi 7.3/10 ranks tenth, and Filmarks 3.5/5 ranks joint 24th. The thick Filmarks segment spans tied positions 24 to 30. This compares rank positions, not converted score gaps.

Gamer's 4.5 for BanG Dream converts to nine out of ten, yet it falls below Gamer's seasonal median of 4.8/5. A converted nine can still be a relatively low score on that site. See the platform averages and medians for the common seasonal baseline.

Iron Wok Jan! deserves a look below the top ten

Iron Wok Jan! ranks 24th combined at 7.60, with 11,908 rating contributions. Its three individual results give a more encouraging picture: fifteenth on MAL, joint eighth on Bangumi and joint ninth on Filmarks. Each contributing site places it within the top fifteen of the same 65 titles.

There is no eligible Gamer score in this snapshot. It isn't counted as zero, but a three-source result and a four-source result don't have identical inputs. The combined formula converts score scales without adjusting for each site's scoring distribution. Check the individual placements before ruling out a title below the top ten.

Iron Wok Jan!'s score rose on all three contributing sites between the same July 18 and October 10 observations. If you checked it early and moved on, these later ratings give you a reason to reconsider.

Iron Wok Jan!'s retained series-score histories from July 18 to October 10: MAL 7.04 to 7.63, Bangumi 6.9 to 7.4, and Filmarks 3.4/5 to 3.9/5. All panels share an explicitly truncated 6-to-9 range on a ten-point scale. Filmarks is plotted after multiplying by two, with its endpoint labels kept on the native five-point scale. Counts grow from 947 to 7,846, 390 to 3,148, and 122 to 914 respectively.

These are cumulative series scores as more people rate, not scores for individual episodes. The rise doesn't prove later episodes were better.

The official premise centres on a fiercely competitive Chinese-cuisine chef who treats cooking as a contest. If you're looking for competition outside sport, try this one. Its lower MAL attention rank of 47th, positive reception on three sites and aligned score rises make it one of the more useful discoveries beneath the combined leaders.

The leaders, with new series close behind

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Calamity leads the combined ranking at 8.95, ahead of You and I Are Polar Opposites Season 2 and Mushoku Tensei Season 3. All three continue established stories. If you're catching up, start with their earlier entries; the 0.02 points separating second and third will tell you less about your next watch than whether you want romance or fantasy.

All ten have four eligible sources. Bleach's 9.01 on MAL ranks first in the sample; its Bangumi 7.8 ranks fifth, while Filmarks' 4.3/5 and Gamer's 5.0/5 share their respective first places. Its lead is supported across the sites, even though they use different score ranges.

For romance, Polar Opposites centres on an outgoing girl and a quiet boy who speaks his mind, as its official introduction explains. For a new series without that sequel catch-up, fourth and fifth place give us Jaadugar and Draw This, Then Die!.

Jaadugar: a historical drama

Jaadugar anime cover, paired with its 8.62 combined score from 42,331 ratings across four platforms.
Open full-size image

Jaadugar follows Sitara, who uses her education and intellect to survive and pursue revenge within the Mongol Empire. Its official introduction sets up a historical story of knowledge and court politics.

Its combined score is 8.62. On the individual sites, it ranks fifth on MAL, joint first on Bangumi and fourth on Filmarks. Gamer gives it 4.9/5, above the 4.8 seasonal median in our matched four-site comparison. If court politics interests you more than another school or fantasy setting, Jaadugar has support across all four sources.

A watchlist with different starting points

Four cover-led next-watch choices prioritise premise and reception context: Jaadugar for court politics, Draw This, Then Die! for manga-making, Grow Up Show for a 1950s circus ensemble, and Iron Wok Jan! for cooking competition. Iron Wok's strong positions on its three contributing sites are shown instead of emphasising its lower combined score.
Open full-size image

Choose Jaadugar for historical drama and court politics, or Draw This, Then Die! for a coming-of-age story about making manga. Both combine a specific premise with positive reception across the four sources.

Grow Up Show is the circus-ensemble option, with a stronger relative Bangumi position than MAL's. Iron Wok Jan! is the cooking-competition pick if a lower combined rank or early score made you pass over it. For a university romance, add Love Unseen with its more mixed reception in mind. Existing Bleach and Polar Opposites fans have their Summer continuations near the top of the list.

The Summer 2026 rankings let you compare those picks with the rest of the tracked catalogue and open each title's source scores.

How scores work

Worked example: native scores and counts

Article data table — scroll to view all columns

MyAnimeList8.04/107,977
Bangumi8.0/104,173
Filmarks4.1/51,683
Gamer4.9/53,375

AniGems converts Filmarks and Gamer from five-point scores to ten-point scores by multiplying by two. It then weights each eligible platform using the base-ten logarithm of its rating count. A source with more ratings gets more weight, but does not dominate in direct proportion to its count.

For Draw This, Then Die!, MAL has 7,977 ratings to Filmarks' 1,683. Their shares of the combined weight are about 27.3% and 22.6%. Gamer contributes about 24.7% of the weight, with its converted 9.8 score helping lift the combined result above MAL's 8.04.

The result is 8.50 after rounding. This weighting doesn't adjust for differences in how each community uses its rating scale. To interpret individual results, we also checked each platform's average and median using the same 39 titles with at least 100 ratings on all four sites.

Each title has equal weight in these means and medians; these are not voter-weighted averages. They describe this matched seasonal sample, not the platforms' entire catalogues. Fourteen of the 39 titles share Gamer's 4.9/5, so we retain tied ranks rather than inventing an order within that group.

Data and selection notes

Scope and dates. This extract uses 65 unique titles in AniGems' tracked Summer 2026 view. All non-null current source ingestion timestamps are October 10, 2026, at approximately 00:00 UTC. The wider catalogue contains 111 Summer records; 46 are outside the tracked sample. Forty-seven analysed titles have four eligible sources and 18 have three. Charts and tables use the same frozen extract; live pages may change after this snapshot.

Calculation. A source qualifies when its score is positive and within its native scale and its rating count exceeds one. The combined score is sum(converted score × log10(rating count)) / sum(log10(rating count)), rounded to two decimals. Missing or ineligible sources do not contribute a score or a weight. The median gives each title equal weight, using its rounded combined score.

Ranks and comparison checks. Unless a restricted sample is named, score and attention ranks refer to the same 65 titles; Gamer score ranks use its 47 eligible titles. Ties share a competition rank, with the next rank skipping the tied positions. Full-sample ranks are descriptive. We repeated reception comparisons on matched title sets with at least 100, 300 and 500 ratings on both sites: MAL–Bangumi samples contain 60, 52 and 43 titles; MAL–Filmarks samples contain 63, 50 and 31. The named relative contrasts persist, but the peer sets and ranks can change. The four-site baseline uses 39 titles with at least 100 ratings on every site. These are sensitivity checks, not statistical significance tests or calibrated quality measurements.

Grow Up Show's higher score rank on Bangumi than MAL persists in all three matched MAL–Bangumi samples. Love Unseen's higher score rank on MAL than Filmarks also persists in all three matched MAL–Filmarks samples. BanG Dream's lower score position on Bangumi than MAL persists at each rating-count floor.

Attention and participation. MAL members and Bangumi collections are stored list/collection counters, not completed-viewer counts. Filmarks' saved member field is a clip counter and Gamer's is a favourite/member counter; neither is used as an equivalent audience measure here. Rating counts are separate contributions. Someone can rate on multiple sites, while other viewers never rate. The member/collection comparisons use within-site positions, not cross-site ratios or claims about national popularity.

Genres. Counts use the saved MyAnimeList genres tags for the same 65 titles, excluding themes and demographics. Each title counts once per genre. Sixty-four titles have at least one saved genre, with 125 genre assignments across 16 genres; Grow Up Show has none. The genre table lists the eight most common genres, ordered by count and alphabetically for ties. These counts describe catalogue tags, not viewing figures or genre-level scores.

Selections. We screened the full sample for relative reception, attention and aligned score movements before choosing examples. Recommendations combine those observations with official premises and different next-watch interests. BanG Dream illustrates attention versus reception rather than a recommendation; Love Unseen illustrates a more qualified romance choice. Its Filmarks sample has 649 ratings; BanG Dream's has only 266, so we do not frame the latter's Filmarks result as evidence that survives a 300-rating floor.

History. Comparisons use July 18 and October 10 observations, at least 100 ratings at both endpoints, and at least three retained dates with qualifying counts in that interval. That screen yields 43 MAL histories, 29 Bangumi, 20 Filmarks and only three Gamer histories, which are different populations. Iron Wok Jan!'s table retains native scales and aligned dates; a 0.5 change on Filmarks' /5 scale is not the same unit as 0.5 on MAL's /10 scale. The database retains observations against episode-progress keys, not a complete daily series. These are selected cumulative-score movements, not the season's largest improvers, episode-quality measures or explanations of audience behaviour.

Sources and limits. Rating values and counts come from the saved MyAnimeList, Bangumi, Filmarks and Gamer records; each linked AniGems title page provides source links. Premise descriptions link to the relevant official anime site, studio or distributor. The aggregation combines different self-selecting communities, not representative national samples. Recorded ingestion times do not guarantee upstream cache freshness, and the figures are not a fresh audit of every original platform page. Recommendations here are editorial selections based on those records and premises, not claims of firsthand viewing.
